Ford GT -- 646bhp, 220mph
The Ford GT was first revealed to stunned onlookers at the Detroit motor show way back at the beginning of 2015. It took until 2017 for anyone to get behind the wheel on the street. By that point, the race version had taken a course victory at Le Mans. The road car shouldn't work. Race cars that end up on the road rarely do. But the GT manages to ride , manage skilfully and live up to its newer-than-space-age looks. A landmark car.
Koenigsegg Agera RS -- 1,340bhp, 277mph
It's not annually -- believe it or not -- which you obtain a new fastest car in the world. Many talk the talk, but few actually set off at a direct line with timing gear and cameras on board to have the challenge. This year, Koenigsegg did just that on a closed road in Nevada, also averaged out 277mph in the procedure.
Bugatti Chiron -- 1,479bhp, 261mph (claimed)
Though we were introduced to the new Bugatti Chiron in 2016, we weren't exposed to the complete force of its 1,479bhp quad-turbo W16 until earlier this year. And when that happened, any thoughts of the thing being only a reheated Veyron quickly evaporated. When it's eventually unleashed with its limiter, the entire world will be seeing.
Hennessey Exorcist -- 1,000bhp, n/a mph
Obviously, Texan horsepower fetishist John Hennessey couldn't allow Dodge like the spoils of war for extended without devoting his own unleaded-swilling riposte -- using a cheeky title to boot. The Exorcist isalso, as you can see, based on a Camaro ZL1 (or even the more monitor focused 1LE, should you want ), and, ahem, trumps the Dodge option by creating 1,000bhp. The best speed is so far unknown, but as the 0-60mph period is sub 3sec, we believe that you 'll agree it deserves a place among 2017's very unhinged performance cars.
Lamborghini Aventador S -- 730bhp, 217mph
Talking of V12s, Lamborghini's flagship had a proper workover in 2017 in order to keep pace with this aptly-named 812 Superfast. The Aventador S's big innovation is rear-wheel steering, which gives the new huge bull something coming agility, but the excess 40bhp wrung from the 6.5-litre V12 is a bonus worth using.
